Interesting historical parallels from a Museum of London online exhibition about the Blitz from 1939:
“Both the authorities and most Londoners expected that attack would follow immediately after the declaration of war. However it was almost a year before London was bombed. During this period of disquieting calm, life for many people returned to something approaching normality. Preparations continued, although boredom set in for some, notably the wardens who sat at their posts with little to do. The government feared that Londoners were becoming complacent and therefore would not be ready when the attack did come. However from the summer of 1940 people did start again to anticipate that London might be bombed.”

I was going to use ‘Boerenlul’ as the surname of my next imaginary reporter, but after coming across a real-life ‘Wortelboer’ (‘Carrot farmer’) I might use that instead.
